Here
are the Do's and one big Don't:
DO
Be link worthy.
Great content will make others want to have your link!
Look for the
low hanging fruit. Distributors and supply companies that carry
your product are perfect prospects. Ask them if you could link to
their site.
Look for sites
that would complement your customer base and exchange links
with them. For example, if you sell the custom printed plastic shopping
bags that are used at trade shows, look for a popular site that
is selling trade show displays and ask if you can exchange links.
Create a free
tool, spec sheet or write an article that will be attractive
to other companies in your industry. These are items that other
sites like to have as additional content.
Get links in
quality, respected directories, associations and vertical sites.
The most obvious mention here of course is ThomasNet. Your ThomasNet
program gets your site linked to the most popular industrial
site on the web! Your ThomasNet links are high quality links.
ThomasNet's editorial dept. makes sure it has rich, relevant and
easy to search content. This is attractive to the search engines.
Also, keep an eye out for other industry specific sites. Seek them
out and add your link.
